From the Fulani (Fula) peoples of West Africa and the Sahel.
Fulani braids (sometimes called bo braids) are a long-standing style worn across Fulani communities, with regional variations in pattern and finish. Some designs frame the face, others spiral into ponytails, fall straight back, or gather into a bun, but the style consistently signals identity, lineage, and cultural continuity.
Traditionally, Fulani braids often feature multiple plaits set in a recognisable pattern: braids that fall to either side of the face, a central braid, and a gathered back section.
The look is frequently adorned with beads, cowrie shells, and metal elements, especially for rites of passage and celebrations.
This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork.
